A degasser is an industrial device used in oil and gas drilling operations as part of a mud system to remove gaseous contaminants from drilling fluids. Combined with solids removal devices such as shakers, it helps clean drilling mud and allows it to be reused during drilling operations.
By removing bubbles from the drilling fluid, the degasser also helps reduce the risk of explosions and other hazards at the drilling site.
The combination of degator and shaker, which removes solids from the fluid, is key to effective drilling operations and plays an important role in the drilling process. This mixture of chemicals, oil and water is pumped into the borehole to remove cuttings and stabilize the wall, and then rises to the surface carrying rocks and cuttings. In some types of Wells, drilling mud can also bring back large amounts of natural gas, methane or carbon dioxide. These gases are dangerous not only to drilling operations, but also to nearby workers and equipment. As the gas is discharged from the borehole, it can be drawn into one of two different types of degassing devices.
There are two main reasons for using vacuum pumps in deaerators. One is to suck the gas-soaked mud from the mud tank to the top of the degasser, forming a thin laminar flow on the baffle, cone or funnel. The other is to exhaust the gas released by the degassing tank and the incoming air. A vacuum pump can also produce a pressure on the exhaust gas through an elongated exhaust pipe.
It is very important to ensure that the float ball always works properly and prevent mud from rising in the tank and entering the vacuum pump through the pipe. A dehydrator is installed in the vacuum pipeline. It is usually used to collect water vapor from hot mud and condense it into liquid at the bottom. When the degasser is turned off, the water can be let out. A floating ball with a safety valve is arranged at the upper part of the dehydrator.
Vacuum degasser relies on vacuum pressure to separate gas and liquid. For more advanced applications, drillers often rely on the atmospheric degasser to expand the degasser area by increasing the area of the degasser, thereby increasing the area of the degasser. Before or after degasser, the drilling fluid must pass through the solid removal system. This usually includes a screening device called a shaker, which separates cuttings from the liquid mud. After removing all solid and gaseous materials, they can be circulated through the drilling mechanism.
In drilling operations where natural gas or other gaseous substances are used, degasser plays a vital role in protecting workers. When these gases are brought to the surface, they can cause fires or explosions, or only affect the air quality around the drilling site. Residual bubbles in the drilling fluid can accumulate in the drilling pipe or drill bit. By eliminating these bubbles, companies can maximize the service life of equipment and reduce maintenance and repair.
